We know booking your very first massage can feel exciting and can sometimes be coupled with uncertainty. At Delphinium, our goal is to make your experience effortless, comfortable, and deeply restorative. Here’s what you can expect:
What will my first session be like?
When you arrive, your therapist will take a few moments to talk with you about your goals: addressing chronic soft tissue issues, easing tension, melting stress, or simply taking a quiet break for yourself. Then you’ll be shown to a serene treatment room, where you can settle in and let the world outside fade away.
Do I have to undress completely?
Not at all. Your comfort comes first. You’re welcome to undress only as much as feels right to you. Most clients prefer to be nude, others prefer to keep on their bottom underwear. What you will need to remove is your top and bra, if your therapist will be working on your full body or from the waist up. If your therapist is performing full body work or working on your legs, hips, or glutes only, you’ll want to take off your pants or shorts. Unless you’ve signed up for a Lomi Lomi inspired session (see here), you’ll always be securely draped with soft sheets so only the area being worked on is uncovered. If you would prefer to keep your clothes on, perhaps a shorter chair massage or a different bodywork modality is a better fit for you.
What if I feel uncomfortable?
Think of the session as a collaboration. If you’d like more or less pressure, a warmer table (we have table warmers!), a quieter room, or anything else, please let your therapist know. Your voice matters, and we’re here to adjust so you can fully relax.
Will the massage hurt?
Massage should never be painful. You may notice “good tension” or a “hurts so good sensation” as we work through tight spots, but we’ll stay within a range that feels supportive and safe. Just let your therapist know how the pressure feels and we will listen. On that note, if you want deeper pressure, we can upgrade your experience with a $20 deep tissue add on. Just ask your therapist!
How should I prepare?
Arrive a few minutes early to have a brief conversation with your therapist and transition into calm.
If you arrive early enough, feel free to browse our front shop area where we sell many items from local artists, authors, and other creative people!
Drink water before your session, but don’t start out on the table with a full bladder. We want you to be comfortable!
Avoid heavy meals at least an hour before your appointment.
Slip into something comfortable to wear after your massage.
What if I fall asleep or make noise?
That’s part of the magic! Many of our guests drift into sleep, sigh deeply out of pleasure, or even snore softly. Your body is letting go, and that’s exactly what it’s meant to do here.
Do I need to talk during the massage?
It’s completely up to you. Some people love to chat, others prefer quiet. We’ll follow your lead. Keep in mind that while we have white noise machines to enhance the atmosphere, loud conversation may disrupt other clients and therapists. Please speak with a soft voice.
Should I tip my therapist?
Gratuities are never expected but always appreciated. If you’d like to leave a tip, most clients tip between 15 and 50 percent, or as their budget allows.
Will one massage take away all my tension?
Many people feel immediate relief, but lasting change often takes more than one session. Think of massage as part of your routine. We’re happy to recommend a plan that supports your body long-term.
Is massage safe if I have a health condition?
In most cases, yes. Please share any health concerns, recent surgeries, blood conditions, soft tissue conditions, or medications with your therapist before we begin. We’ll adapt the session to keep you safe and supported.
What should I do afterward?
Drink water
Rest, if your body asks for it
Enjoy the afterglow! Many of our guests notice deeper sleep, lighter moods, and a sense of renewal that carries into the days ahead.
Book your next massage! Don’t let life get in the way of your you time. Be sure to book your next session before you leave so you can be sure to experience bliss again and again! We offer an array of memberships and packages for those who make the decision to make regular bodywork a part of their routine.
Hang out, browse our boutique, and chat with us! We love getting to know our clientele!
I have a Groupon voucher, gift certificate, a discount code, etc. How do I proceed?
Groupon: If you have not yet purchased the voucher, please don’t. We are happy to give you a discount so that you pay Delphinium the same price you would pay Groupon. If you have already purchased it, that’s okay! Simply let us know about the voucher when you book your appointment and present the voucher (on your phone or as a printout) after your session during the checkout process. Please note that due to the tremendous cost to small businesses to partner with Groupon, those vouchers are for locals only and can only be used once.
Gift Certificate: If one of our certificates found its way into your hands, that means someone cares deeply about you! Please note the value of the certificate (length of the session) and let us know you have the certificate when booking. Simply present the physical or e-certificate after your session during the checkout process.
Discount Code (or flyer/business card with an offer): Simply present the business card, flyer, or discount code after your session during the checkout process.
At Delphinium, your first massage is the beginning of something nourishing. Welcome to our space.
